Merrylands crash: Wife of father killed in crash leaves tribute

The grieving wife of a father-of-six has paid tribute to her husband after he was killed in a horror crash in Sydney’s west.

Nour Mabany was sitting in the passenger seat of a Holden ute when it collided with a Hyundai i30 just after 5pm on Saturday on Hawksview Street in Merrylands.

His wife Rema Zreika said his death had “shattered [her] into a million pieces”.

“I pray I can be strong enough to raise your six kids,” she wrote to Facebook on Sunday.

Police are now investigating if the driver of the car was involved in a drag race.

Witnesses said they saw the ute swerving around a truck on the single lane road before a sedan followed closely behind.

The ute then smashed into the Hyundai i30 sending it flipping onto its roof and slamming into another parked car.

The driver of the ute, a 23-year-old man, was taken to Westmead Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and underwent mandatory testing.

The 37-year-old driver of the Hyundai was uninjured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Local resident Carol Malouf said neighbours rushed to the passenger’s aid but were unable to get into the overturned car.

“We could see his arm, everybody ran to the car to try and rescue him,” she said.

“They were screaming to get some tools, my husband took some over to try and break the car to get him out, but we couldn’t.”

Ms Malouf said she had seen accidents on the same stretch of “dangerous” road before.

“It’s an open road with two big hills and no speed bumps,” she said.

“The accident happened right at the top of the hill where drivers sometimes don’t see what’s coming.”

No charges have been laid.
