Celeste Barber tells The Project about worst stunt on Wellmania

An Australian comedian known for her hilarious takes on the wellness industry has revealed how difficult it was to take part in treatments as a part of her new TV show.

Celeste Barber took part in different wellness trends such as yoga and suction cupping, but she said that one was much more difficult than the rest.

“The most full-on one I had to do was silks in a gym scene, you know those amazing acrobatic silks where you twirl up,” she told Waleed Aly and Sarah Harris on The Project.

“I had to go into stunt rehearsals for three days.”

A type of acrobatic performance, those doing aerial silks must perform tricks in the air while clinging from one or two pieces of fabric hung from a ceiling.

Notoriously strenuous, gymgoers often take up silks to improve their strength and flexibility.

Despite their difficulty, Barber revealed her husband had a less than impressed response to her new skill.

“I watched it with my husband and I was like ‘I did all my own stunts,’ and he was like ‘when did that stuff happen?’”

“I was like ‘that part where I fell over, three days of rehearsal to do it’,”

“I got all bruised and everything.”

Despite her partaking in the show, Barber said she has only partaken one of the show’s wellness trends in real life because she “had to”.

“I had to have a colonic,” she said.

“I actually had emergency open heart surgery when I was 25 and my body just freaked out after it and I had to go and get a colonic to do the things that colonics do.”

In a colonic, or colon cleansing, large amounts of water are flushed through the colon through inserting a tube in the rectum.

Proponents of colon cleansing believe they flush toxins from your gastrointestinal tract, however there has been little scientific evidence to support these claims.

Barber told Sarah Harris that though it was a “horrible” procedure that she would “never do again”, there were some benefits.

“I have to say you feel like you’re walking on clouds, it feels amazing.

“But it’s a whole three week thing where you can’t eat this and you can’t do that.

“And that’s the thing about the wellness industry, it’s so full on, if you’re doing to do everything it’s a complete lifestyle.”
