ALDI special buy Casalux Solar LED street light recalled over batteries exploding

A popular solar light sold in ALDI stores as a part of its Special Buys promotion has been recalled after reports the product had “exploded, melted and caught fire.”

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is recalling the Casalux Solar LED street light was sold in ALDI stores after customers reported that the internal batteries can overheat while charging.

This has led to incidents with the device where the batteries “exploded, melted and caught fire”, putting customers in extreme danger.

“There is a risk of a serious injury or death, or property damage if the batteries overheat and catch fire,” the ACCC said in its recall.

The product was sold in ALDI stores across the country from September 23 to October 27 of this year through the Special Buys promotions in the centre of the store.

Lights with the model number WFD-SPL004 are affected by the recall.

ALDI customers can locate the model number on the compliance label under the solar panel.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and return it to any ALDI store for a full refund,” the ACCC says.
